OWL Members Meet with Carnahan Staffer to Advocate for Universal Health Care
Two Gateway OWL members joined a group of universal health care advocates in the office of US Rep. Russ Carnahan on Wednesday, February 28. Myrna Fichtenbaum and Fran Sisson met with Anna Jinkerson, Carnahan’s District Affairs Coordinator to advocate for Universal Health Care. Among other groups represented at the meeting were Missourians for Single Payor (MOSP), the Missouri Nurses’ Association, and the Women’s International League for Peace & Freedom (WILPF).
OWL’s Myrna Fichtenbaum pressed Ms. Jinkerson, who also serves as the congressman’s Healthcare Policy Liaison, to advocate for a meeting between the Carnahan and Rep. John Conyers, whose HR676 (the Medicare for All bill) is attracting co-sponsors.
“It is important to do that,” said Jinkerson, who promised to report back to the group on whether Carnahan planned to co-sponsor the bill on universal health care. She also informed everyone that a Healthcare Industry Advisory Committee is being formed and invited those in attendance to participate.
