About the Divorce Support Group
The PURPOSE of the Divorce Support Group is to make connections with others in similar situations, make new friends, talk and be listened to with understanding and learn from one another.
“We are not a therapy group. We are a group of peers – women who have a great deal in common.”
First and Third Sunday evening 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Salem Methodist Church, Lindbergh at Highway 40. (Use the back parking lot entrance.)
Divorce in your life? Or do you know someone considering or going through divorce? The Midlife Women's Divorce Seminar will be held in 2010. Date to be determined. Watch this spot for more information on it as it becomes available.
Each Sunday meeting is facilitated by trained peer leaders and includes both sharing of experiences and concerns and discussion of a pertinent topic. The meetings provide a place to accept and work through the range of emotions that occur in divorce… a place to rebuild our self-confidence, self-esteem and inner strength.
Divorce Support Group Guidelines 1.Self-determination: Each one determines what she will say. No one is pressured. 2.Confidentiality: What is head in the group stays in the group. 3.Taking turns: We share the available time fairly. 4.Advice: We tell about our own experiences, but we do not offer unsolicited advice.
Gateway OWL sponsors the Midlife Divorce Support Group, the Women of Worth Awards, and the Women’s Financial Education Series. The Midlife Divorce Support Group has held peer counseling to more than 700 women for 16 years on Sunday evenings. The Women’s Financial Education Series is offered once or twice a year. The Women of Worth Awards are celebrating their 20th year in 2010.
Newcomers are always welcome.
A Creative Idea for Women Gateway OWL is in the process of developing a support group for women who are interested in fostering their personal development and growth and who want to explore and discuss issues that are part of maturing and aging. The group will be open to all midlife and older women who are married, divorced, widowed, or single, and will focus on concerns that affect us all -- family, jobs, finances, health, and social and cultural issues. We believe there are many women in the St. Louis area who are looking for opportunities:
- To meet other women who share their life issues and challenges
- To be part of discussions about topics relevant to their lives
- To learn how to realize positive personal development in the second half of life
- To have an opportunity to talk about their lives and be listened to with empathy and understanding
New research recognizes and focuses on the potential and opportunities that are available to us all in the second half of our lives. It is well known that meeting new people and sharing ideas and experiences expands our world and helps us flourish. This is our objective! If you might be interested in the group or have any questions please contact OWL at 314-725-5862 or owlstlouis@sbcglobal.net.
