Women of Worth helps provide the operating income for Gateway Chapter of OWL, the Voice of Midlife and Older Women.
In 1990, the National OWL office asked the Gateway OWL Chapter to establish an event called Wonderful Older Women to honor an OWL member who most represents the OWL mission: to improve a variety of interrelated economic, social and health issues facing mid-life and older women. The following year, Gateway OWL decided to expand the event to include the women from the community. Eventually, the event became the annual fund-raiser honoring 10-12 women and a Lifetime Achievement Awardee and/or a Corporate Awardee.
Women of Worth honors outstanding women who have made significant contributions to the community through their professional and/or volunteer work. Nominations are sought in the late spring. Three judges, who are not OWL members select the Women of Worth from the nominations. The Women of Worth are announced during the summer with an orientation including their nominators and the judges. The celebratory dinner follows in the Fall.
The Women of Worth Event is now in it’s 22nd year. A list of the women who have been honored is included on this website. This event helps provide the operating income for the Gateway Chapter of OWL, the Voice of Midlife & Older Women, which celebrates its 32nd anniversary in 2012.
